Essential oils are highly concentrated, aromatic compounds from plants. They may be produced from the seeds, bark, leaves, flowers, roots or peels of some fruits. Essential oils are more than just scents - they can provide many physical, mental, and emotional benefits.

When you use essential oils, they are absorbed through the skin, the respiratory tract, or your digestive system. Through each method, the oils reach every cell of your body in a short amount of time! Oils also effect the brain, and can have effects on your mood, memory, behavior and emotions. This is because of the neurotransmitters released by the brain in response to the oils. Pretty cool stuff!

WHAT'S A CARRIER OIL?

A carrier oil is a base oil used to dilute essential oils for topical use. Common carrier oils include coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba and many others. See some of our favorite recommendations.

WHICH OILS NEED DILUTED? 

The label directions on your Young Living bottles will tell you if and how your oils need to be diluted. You may always dilute them more! Be sure to always dilute "hot" oils like cinnamon, clove, peppermint and oregano. Read more safety tips

WHY IS YOUNG LIVING MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE OILS AT MY HEALTH FOOD STORE? 

Yes, Young Living IS more expensive that the oils at your health food store! Oils are not created equally, and you get what you pay for. Unfortunately "100% pure" doesn't really mean much. There are many factors that go into the price of an oil, including the type of distillation (steam distillation or cold pressing vs solvent extraction, which is much cheaper), the way the plants were grown and harvested, and if anything has been added to the oil. YL oils cost more because you're truly getting THE BEST. We chose YL because they own farms all over the world, are a non-GMO company, grow organically, harvest on site, and third party test. WHY DO I HAVE TO BUY A STARTER KIT? CAN I JUST BUY 1 OIL?

There are 2 options for purchasing Young Living oils. The BEST option is to get a starter kit, that comes with your own wholesale membership, and 24% off, forever! It's like a Costco membership - you use it when you want to, and everything costs less. Unlike Costco, there is no membership fee however! Just the one time starter kit purchase. Your wholesale account stays active when you buy just 50PV (generally $50) per year. The PSK oils are designed to give you an incredible experience for your whole family. It's a carefully selected bundle of oils to target every area of wellness. You can't get the same experience from just a single bottle or two!

If you're really set on buying just 1 or 2 oils, you can do that. You would just need to sign up as a retail account instead of a wholesale member. CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY PREMIUM STARTER KIT? 

The Premium Starter Kits come with a diffuser of your choice and a set of 11 oils that is the same. You cannot change the oils in your kit. Currently there are 3 diffusers to choose from in the US. We have them all, and they are all amazing! If you're in Canada, the kits all come with a Dew Drop diffuser. WHAT OILS ARE BEST FOR SLEEP FOR CHILDREN? 

Our favorite combo is equal parts lavender, cedar, and Peace & Calming. However - there are SO many sleep oils, and everyone is a little different! From the starter kit, lavender alone is perfect. Other favorites: SleepyIze, vetiver, Gentle Baby, and the Tranquil roll-on.

ARE OILS SAFE FOR INGESTING?

If you're using a Young Living Vitality oil, then - YES! There are many essential oils that the FDA considers "generally recognized as safe", and you are likely familiar with them as fruits, herbs, and spices that you already use. These can be a really fun addition to your kitchen! Please note that we do NOT recommend ingesting any other brand of essential oils, and the recommendations on this website only apply to Young Living products. 

IF USING TOPICALLY, WHERE SHOULD I APPLY? 

Well, it depends on what you're using it for! It makes sense to use it near the area you're trying to support, when possible. For general use, we like behind the ears, back of the neck, wrists, and the feet. For children, in general we like backs and feet.
